Mornington Peninsula Division of General Practice

Programs-Immunisation

Immunisation

The immunisation program promotes all aspects of immunisation and aims to improve the immunisation rate within the community through a variety of means.

  • The Division trains and funds interested GPs to provide immunisation information talks to expectant parents at antenatal education classes throughout the Mornington Peninsula.

  • The Division promotes immunisation in the community, and is currently running a poster campaign in kindergartens to raise awareness of the immunisations due at age 4.

  • Immunisation related education and upskilling activities are conducted for GPs and practice staff.  Topics that have been addressed in the past include new vaccines and schedules, cold chain management and using the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register.

  • Assistance, information, resources and equipment related to immunisation promotion and delivery are provided to practices, including information management tools, vaccine redistribution, vaccine fridge temperature monitoring and up to date information on immunisation issues that arise.

  • The Division is participating in a regional Immunisation Data Quality Program.  This aims to raise immunisation rates by updating the immunisation records held by the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register, and then using this information to identify children who are not fully immunised and providing them with the appropriate immunisations.
